For the record, I agree with the statement in following press release from the Rick Santorum campaign:

SANTORUM ISSUES STATEMENT ON TRUMP DEBATE
Verona, PA - Early this week, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich both agreed to participate in the NewsMax debate this December to be moderated by Donald Trump.   Many in the media, political pundits and even some Republican Presidential Candidates have mocked the very idea - while some of the candidates are still weighing options.

Santorum issued the following statement about the upcoming debate:

"Many of my opponents jockeyed to be the first to fly up to New York and use Donald Trump for a photo op and no doubt try and secure an endorsement.  But when Donald wants to moderate a debate - they refuse to attend. That's what's so wrong with politics today - hypocrisy. At this critical time in our nation's history, just weeks before Iowan's cast this important vote - many of the other candidates want to hide behind TV ads and mail pieces.  We plan to be there front and center in person to debate Newt directly, and if it's just the two of us, we're fine with it.

There's no doubt that any of us are better than Barack Obama - however, we can't afford to put up a person who can't clearly articulate a vision or has a glass jaw or a unprincipled past.  Donald Trump knows business and knows global markets - and we all know he'll be able to bring in a broad audience. And let's be honest, at least Donald Trump will have more in common with the candidates than with vast majority of past moderators."

I am looking forward to the Trump debate and I think voters will get a lot more out of it than the debates we've seen thus far which were moderated by hostile leftist Obama shill media hacks. The only thing better for me would be if they had a debate moderated by Robert Stacy McCain (America's last REAL Reporter) which included anti-jihad bloggers on the question asking panel. ;)

I too want to see this debate. The Donald will no doubt bring a new perspective to the q & a sessions we`ve seen so far. I have a desire to understand all I can about each of the candidates like never before. This is to me the single most important election of my lifetime. Not even Donald`s ridiculous hair can dampen my spirit !

Those that have refused to attend are making a HUGE mistake...

Rick is definitely more conservative and principled than the rest, but call me a skeptic.

He is still a politician and that means winning is the number one goal. What politician wouldn't accept and offer to debate a leading one if you are the trailing one? The Donald is a self-promoter and entertainer. Don't think  having him moderate a GOP debate is a plus for any of our candidates.

He had his chance to run. He bailed, he quit. Now it seems he still wants to be a king-maker, while refusing to say he would not run as an Independent in the general.

Unacceptable.
