Like many of my fellow thought criminals, I am an voracious reader of Conservative blogs, but when it comes to the written word, my first love is and always will be old fashioned hand held paper paged books.
In the rare moments of my life when I can put my feet up and relax, I much prefer to hold a book than a laptop and when I know I will be waiting around some place (such as the doctor's office, the DMV, or my kid's bus stop) having a book to read will entertain my brain and help pass the time in a much more pleasant way than if I have to do without it. I have read thousands of books, from many different genres, over my lifetime and if I live long enough, I will read thousands more before I am done. Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance by Pamela Geller
This book should be required reading for all freedom loving Americans; it will give you not only practical information for stemming the tide of islamic supremacist conquest and infiltration, but also extensively researched details about how we got to the frightening and dangerous place where we are today. Pamela has done a stellar job exposing just how deeply entrenched the islamic supremacists are in every facet of our society and what we can do about it. Not only is Pamela's book is an excellent factual resource, it is also written in a highly readable style, in that it is not dry and overly intellectualized - this book is written for regular people and it does not require a PhD and a dictionary to understand it, unlike many other scholarly books and papers related to this vitally important issue.
A Big Little Life by Dean Koontz
Dean Koontz is best known for his riveting horror books, but this book is about his dog, Trixie, a beloved Golden Retriever who blessed his life in ways that only a person who has known the love of a good dog (or reads this book) could possibly understand. Trixie looks just like my dog Maggie (the best dog ever) who passed away a few years ago, and Koontz's loving memoir of his Trixie reminds me a lot of my Maggie. I am only a few chapters in to this book, but it is already a delight to read and very endearing. I highly recommend it if you are in need of escaping the non-stop ugly in our world and some heartwarming smiles.
A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
My grandpa had a place here in NY's Hudson Valley which a piece of the famed Appalachian Trail ran through. My Dad took me and my siblings on it many times when we were young children and explained its significance to us. The 2100 mile trail runs from Georgia through to Maine and Bill Bryson went on the adventure of a lifetime when walked almost the entire thing. Mr. Bryson recounts that adventure in this book, which will teach you about the history and ecology of the trail, tell you about some of the interesting people he met along the way, and at more than a few points in his story, make you laugh out loud. There are only a handful of books that I have read in my life which made me sad to reach the end of because they were so good, this is one of them.
The StoryTeller by Steven Knies
This is one of my all time favorite books. Kevin is an extraordinary young man whose family moved around a lot. Kevin has an wonderful gift, he writes amazing stories which help him to get through life's challenges (and this boy faces a lot of them), make new friends, and take us all out of this world. The story about young Kevin's life is riveting to begin with, but The StoryTeller also includes the stories that Kevin creates - each more enthralling than the last and each of them incredible stories that can stand alone and will stick with you for a long time. This is so much more than a coming of age book, it is a big adventure chock full of a wide variety of other adventures woven into a rich tapestry of awesome. This is the kind of book that you actually want to read over and over again.
Dark Fragments by Steven Knies
If you like horror and fantasy, you will enjoy Dark Fragments which is a collection of chilling short stories that take you to surprising places. There are a lot of great tales in this book, one of my favorites is "Stop It", a story about things being much different than appearances would let on.
Steven Knies is a good friend of mine; he is an Army Veteran, and a true Patriot. When not writing, he is a contractor by trade, but the economy has really made good paying work hard to come by. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you may have noticed that my posting has slowed down a bit, that is because it is back to school time at the Resister house and my oldest began school full time for the first time and I am left at home with the youngest trying to get us all adjusted to the new schedule. This has left me exhausted and off-kilter but hopefully things will smooth out soon and life will return to as close to normal as we ever get here. unfortunately, getting my Lil Resister ready to go to school full time and purchasing all of the required supplies has also exhausted my already limited financial resources, which only adds to my blahs by giving me another damned thing to worry about. if you enjoy the type of work that I do here, please keep in mind that the best way to encourage a blogger is to show them that what they do has value.
Every little bit helps and pushes the DOOM! a little further away.
