Take Your Sharia and SHOVE IT! Long Live Punk Rock Edition

"There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy..." - Ayatollah Khomeini, 1979

And in Aceh, they take this joyless, miserable, islamic mandate seriously.

The Jakarta Globe: In this photograph taken on Tuesday a police officer lectures a group of detained Indonesian punks at a police school in Aceh Besar in Aceh province. (AFP Photo)

Check out the video below, they look like nice enough kids, just having some innocent fun, enjoying music. Sharia says they can't do that. Punk rock kids in Aceh, Indonesia have been round up and arrested, had their heads shaved (girls are forced to get their hair into short bob style), and were thrown into water before being set up for "re-education".

Via The Jakarta Globe:
Banda Aceh. Dozens of young people were being held and punished by Aceh police on Tuesday for the supposed crime of being “punk,” despite not being charged with any crime nor being brought before a court.

The 64 music lovers, some of whom had come from as far as Jakarta and West Java, were arrested by regular and Shariah police as they held a charity concert in Banda Aceh’s Taman Budaya park on Saturday night.

Banda Aceh police took the arrestees on Tuesday afternoon to the Aceh State Police School for “reeducation.” Aceh police chief Ins. Gen. Iskandar Hasan described the punishment awaiting them when they reached the police school in the Seulawah hills, 62 kilometers east of he capital.

“There will be a traditional ceremony. First their hair will be cut. Then they will be tossed into a pool. The women’s hair we’ll cut in the fashion of a female police officer,” Iskander said on Tuesday. “Then we’ll teach them a lesson.”  MORE HERE
The Deputy Mayor of Aceh refers to the punk rock kids as a "social disease".
Via The Jakarta Globe:
“This is a new social disease affecting Banda Aceh. If it is allowed to continue, the government will have to spend more money to handle them,” the deputy mayor said, adding that religious scholars were assisting at the camp.
One of the 64 detainees, a punk music fan from Medan, North Sumatra, said he had traveled to Banda Aceh to take part in a concert that aimed to raise money for orphans.
“What is going on here? I work as a contractor for a bank in Medan. I’ll probably be sacked for not coming in to work for a week,” said the man, who asked to remain anonymous.
When his case was put to Illiza, the deputy mayor responded: “He’s part of the punk community and whoever was caught has to go through our reeducation so they wake up.”
She said the police would hold people from outside the province of Aceh for 10 days, but that Acehnese natives could be held longer.
“If they join the punks, they will be treated the same as the rest of them,” she added.
...
“Their morals are wrong. Men and women gather together, and that is against Islamic Shariah,” she said.
She guessed that the number of punks in the town was around 200.
The punks in custody range from teenagers to people in their thirties. Illiza said that there had been some as young as twelve years old at the concert, but that they had escaped the police raid.
Fuazan, 20, an Acehnese punk whose head is now roughly shaved, said he was not impressed with his treatment at the hands of the police.
“What did we do to deserve arresting?” he asked, looking troubled. “We didn’t steal and we didn’t bother anyone. The punk community in Banda Aceh is not involved with criminality.”
“So what’s the crime that justifies us being brought to this camp? This country hasn’t yet made it illegal to express yourself, right?”
“And what of our livelihoods? Please help us,” Fuazan said. “How are we supposed to support ourselves now that we’ve been brought here?”
Illiza, who claimed she has the support of the public, said the police would continue to hunt for punks in Banda Aceh.
“We will keep conducting raids until they’re all caught, then we’ll bring them for reeducation here.”
“Aceh is a Shariah region,” Illiza added. “Everyone should obey it and the punk community is clearly against Shariah.”
“This training will be an example in Indonesia of the reeducation of the punks.”  RTWT

You know, that photo of the kids with their shaved heads is reminiscent of nazi concentration camps, and the nazis had referred to their Jewish victims as a "disease" as well. The nazis also liked to shave the heads of their victims and throw them into water also. Perhaps not a coincidence considering how the mohamadeens colluded with Hitler to perpetrate the Holocaust.

The punk rock kids had been participating in a charity concert to help orphaned children when the raid occurred. The Deputy Mayor behind the crackdown said of the punks' charitable endeavor:
“The concert would have been an abomination to Islamic teaching, and they also committed a permit violation,” he said.

Djamal alleged that the concert organizers falsely claimed in their request for a permit from Aceh’s Consultative Assembly of Ulema (MPU) that the concert was a charity event whose proceeds would go to orphanages.

The deputy mayor did not say how or whether the authorities had even been able to disprove the claim.

“We don’t want this kind of mistake happening again. We also call on parents to monitor their children to prevent them from being influenced by these questionable communities,” he said.

“This [punk] group threatens [Islamic] faith and deviates very widely from Islamic teachings, which is why we had to break up the concert.”  MORE HERE
Jihad Watch has more about the ongoing persecution of punk rock kids in Aceh, HERE and HERE.

Hindustan Times has a slideshow of images fromt he roundup of punk rock kids and their "rehabilitation" including this one of a crying girl getting her hair cut off to make her sharia compliant:

In an article at the Hindustan Times, the Deputy Mayor of Aceh was quoted saying this:
"We feared that the Islamic sharia law implemented in this province will be tainted by their activities," Banda Aceh deputy mayor Illiza Sa'aduddin Djamal, who ordered the arrests, told AFP on Wednesday.
"We hope that by sending them to rehabilitation they will eventually repent."  RTWT
When a sharia madness takes hold of a society, the music usually dies, because mohammed hated music. But what the sharia tyrants in Aceh fail to realize is that once rock 'n roll has touched one's soul, it will never ever die, and kids who rock aren't the type to submit meekly as you try to take away something that can bring a most fundamental joy, because rock has always been for the rebels, the young and the young at heart, and rock and roll will never die. The kids will find a way to undermine you, always. It is a universal truth.

Rock on, children!

I like this last one best, it's got lots of cool shots of Indonesian punk rock kids and the song is danged catchy:

To the haters of music, destroyers of joy and purveyors of misery, I say this:

Take your sharia and SHOVE IT!!!

I think it will be the youth living under Islam that will be the ones to put that death cult religion to it's grave. I'm sure they just pissed off alot of kids there.

After the earthquakes and tsunamis of Indonesia, many people asked why the muslims rarely if ever came out in force to help their own in times of disaster !? Well, here`s your answer; sharia will not allow any event that might stir feelings of charity !

Will someone please explain to me how islam is the religion of peace, love, tolerance and enlightenment ? I`m not feelin` it !

So sad, especially if it was for charity.  but as I mentioned in my response to your comment on my blog (thanks for the visit, by the way) that since the rest of Indonesia is pretty much secular, how did these hard-line fundamentalists get into power. The youth, primarily ushered in the Iranian mullahs, the Gazans Hamas and I fear the same thing will happen in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Libya.

Yeah, the youths are quite passionate about "change", but aren`t particularly adept at choosing change they can really live with !

I think that this will tick a lot of kids off.  I can see the kids getting rebellious and fighting back against those who impose Sharia. Hopefully this will expose the oppressive, tyrannical Sharia.  Sharia is the enemy of freedom.  Sharia needs to die by a thousand cuts.

I'm acehnese, and see what a very subjective article (if you think it is an article) this is. first of all, let me ask:
1) why don't you mention about the opinion of the people there about this community, and how they have disturb the social life in aceh?

2) why don't you mention this concert ignore the rule by not separating the men and women althoughOTHER CONCERTS (yes, this is not the first concerts in aceh) IS ALLOWED BY SIMPLY COMPLY TO THE RULE. and btw, by getting the permission to make a concerts everywhere, it means you should agree to the rule in that area, or else you won't get permission right?
so i think it's fine to assume whether the EO lies, and didn't abide the rule or they simply didn't get permission to held a concert (the first one is has more possibility i think)

3) why don't you mention that in the place where this kids hid, the police found DRUGS. (yes they were, please try to report a full news, don't just write the parts that you want)

4) when you are saying "camp", you are leading it to 'hitler way' by compare it to concentration camp for jew. why don't you mention that the camp is actually a good one with lot of positive things? yes, in the camp they got a lot of fun by doing outbond and other good activities (sorry i forgot what other things called in english)

5) Islam in aceh is sunni, not shia. and khomeini is a shia figure which is hated and considered as a heresy by some sunni scholar, but you quote what he said as  something came from a muslim figure. don't you even know the very same person lead his follower to massacre sunni in Iran?

lastly, I would like to say please, next time you write something, study the topic  well and carefully, so you can write a good piece
